Ukrainian pulse producers are actively seeking the most profitable global markets, but price remains the key factor. Particular attention is being paid to cooperation with China. This was stated by the president of the Ukraine Pulse and Soybean Association, Antonina Sklyarenko, during her speech at the Agro Ukraine Summit.
“We are currently considering various markets for our products. Ukrainian soybeans, peas, chickpeas, lentils, and beans are definitely expected in the European Union, as well as in African and Asian countries. But the key issue for us is price. We cannot focus on just one direction, so we are looking where the conditions are more favorable. European partners say they are ready to cooperate, to make compromises, and even declare their intentions to invest in enterprises in western Ukraine. However, the price they offer is often lower than in other countries. That’s why we remain open, but approach this pragmatically — we go where there is economic sense,” noted Antonina Sklyarenko.
The association is paying special attention to work with China. However, the PRC's regulatory requirements in this direction are extremely high.
“The Ukraine Pulse and Soybean Association recently worked out the export of peas to China in detail together with the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection. There are many technical requirements that must be met. The Chinese added points to the pea protocol that were not present for other crops. But we are continuing the work, because there is demand, and precisely because of this, the price of peas has risen. And what is very important — the Chinese side officially recognized that Ukrainian peas surpass the products of the aggressor country in terms of quality and fully meet the Canadian standard. And Canadian peas are considered the global benchmark. So we have all the prerequisites to become a long-term supplier,” emphasized the president of the UPSA.
